U.S. Reaches Out to China Amid Intensifying Trade War, Says Beijing-Backed Outlet
Chinese Media Claims Washington Is 'More Anxious' as Tariff Tensions Escalate
BEIJING — Amid mounting trade tensions, U.S. officials under President Donald Trump’s administration have reached out to their Chinese counterparts to discuss the sweeping tariffs that have rattled global markets and disrupted supply chains, according to a Chinese state-affiliated media outlet.
Tariffs Hit Record Highs
In April, the U.S. imposed aggressive tariffs of up to 145% on a wide range of Chinese products. China quickly retaliated with its own 125% duties on American imports, further straining already fragile global supply chains.
Beijing: U.S. Seeking Talks via 'Multiple Channels'
Citing unnamed sources, Yuyuan Tantian—a platform affiliated with China’s state broadcaster CCTV—reported Thursday that Washington is "proactively" initiating contact with Beijing through “multiple channels.” The outlet described the U.S. as being under greater pressure and “more anxious” in the current negotiation landscape.
Trump Maintains Optimism About Deal
President Trump reiterated his belief on Wednesday that a deal with China remains likely. Speaking at a NewsNation town hall, he said, “There’s a very good chance we’re going to make a deal. But we’re going to make it on our terms, and it’s got to be fair.”
China Denies Active Negotiations
Despite Trump’s claims, Beijing has denied that any formal talks are taking place. However, Chinese officials continue to call for dialogue based on mutual respect and fairness. At the same time, they have warned of a prolonged confrontation if necessary.
China's Defiant Tone Escalates
In a symbolic move, China’s foreign ministry this week posted a video on social media declaring that the country would “never kneel down” under external pressure, reflecting a hardening of tone from Beijing.
