Kamindu Mendis, one of Sri Lanka’s most promising cricketers, has been making major waves in the international cricket scene recently. With a unique skillset and record-breaking performances in 2024, he has become a key figure in Sri Lanka's cricketing future.


 Who is Kamindu Mendis?

Kamindu Mendis was born on September 30, 1998, in Galle, Sri Lanka. He made his T20 international debut against England in 2018. What sets him apart is his rare ability to bowl with both arms — a true ambidextrous bowler — making him one of the most versatile players in the game.

He debuted in Test cricket in 2022 against Australia and by 2025, he has played 12 Test matches, scoring 1184 runs with 5 centuries and 4 fifties. His highest score so far is an unbeaten 182*. 


 2024: A Breakout Year

The year 2024 turned out to be phenomenal for Kamindu. In the Test series against Bangladesh, he scored centuries in both innings, totaling 367 runs and earning the Player of the Series title. His performances earned him a spot in the ICC Men’s Test Team of the Year 2024, making him the only Sri Lankan player to achieve that honor. 


 Record-Breaking Streak

  • Kamindu set a remarkable record by scoring eight consecutive 50+ scores in Test matches — a rare feat in modern cricket.

  • In September 2024, he was named the ICC Player of the Month after scoring over 1000 Test runs in just eight matches, including five centuries and four fifties.


 Limited-Overs Format

While his Test performance is outstanding, his white-ball career is still developing:

  • In 19 ODIs, he has scored 353 runs.

  • In 23 T20Is, he has scored 381 runs, with a highest score of 65*.
