Shan Masood to represent Leicestershire in the 2025 county season The Test captain will make his debut for Leicestershire against his former county Derbyshire on May 31 after the conclusion of the Pakistan Super League.

Leicestershire have signed Pakistan Test captain Shaun Masood on an all-format contract for the summer of 2025.

The 35-year-old batsman who led Pakistan to a Test series win against England last year will bring experience and batting experience to Grace Road.

Shaun Masood will make his Leicestershire debut against his former county Derbyshire on May 31 following the conclusion of the Pakistan Super League.

The move marks the end of his association with Yorkshire where he led the club from 2023 under a two-year deal. During his tenure, the left-handed opener scored 1,240 County Championship runs at an average of 53.91 in 15 matches, playing a key role in Yorkshire's return to Division One in 2024.

He initially joined Yorkshire in the summer of 2022 after an impressive spell with Derbyshire where he scored 1,078 first-class runs at an average of 82.61.

During that season he registered back-to-back double centuries, including 219 against Leicestershire and 239 against Sussex.

Shaun Masood, who has capped 90 times for Pakistan across all formats, including 42 Tests, will be in action alongside club captain Peter Handscomb and Netherlands all-rounder Logan van Beek.

He is expected to be available throughout the season as Pakistan currently has no scheduled Test matches during the English summer. However, his availability could change if the PCB recalls him for the limited-overs tour of the Caribbean starting July 31, even though his last white-ball appearance for Pakistan was in May 2023.
